We want to be farmers

Driveway Luge

We never did purchase a tractor. It just seems like such an expense. So we’ve had to deal with the snow, or rather we have had to drive over and through the snow the best we can. It’s gone rather well actually. We can’t get the VW out just yet, but the truck has managed.

Where the drive levels off near the barn, you can see the entrance to the field on the left. We used this when the drive turned to a sheet of ice after the early ice storms.  We would continue to use this entrance, but the creek thawed and eroded some — we were scraping bottom with the truck. We dream about relocating the driveway to the field. We dream about a lot of things.

Bohemian Acres Episode 1

Paperwhites

Our forced bulbs are beginning to open. We didn’t force them ourselves, but I would like to try that next year. Perhaps with some tulips. The paperwhites are great as they open more and more each day. Tulips probably wouldn’t last as long.

Gardenfork.tv

Gardenfork.tv is one of my favorite video podcasts. They are doing everything we want to be doing only 2 years ahead of us. Plus they have time to shoot lots of video. This episode is out of season, but great to watch and think of all the possibilities the garden has to come.

Golden, CO porch remodel

Dad and I came out to Golden to help Nick work on some projects. We decided the sun porch needed the most attention. I wish I had remembered to take a “before” photo, but a description will probably do. Picture an outdoor patio framed in by a low concrete wall. At some point in the past someone decided to turn it into an indoor sunroom using whatever they had lying around as materials and a shitload of nails. The result was “ticky tacky” as dad likes to say. This afternoon we ripped out all the ticky tacky stuff and installed a new window 2 feet wider than the old one. Tomorrow we will begin installing cedar tongue and groove paneling.
